Registration is closed. The race has been canceled.
Here is the email that was sent to all those who were registered...
You are receiving this email because you were registered for the Fairview 5K / 10K / 15K on April 25th. With the CDC recommending no public gatherings for at least the next 8 weeks, the responsible thing for me to do is to cancel the event. Of course, I'm sad, and I know you guys are disappointed too. I really enjoy seeing all your smiling faces on race day and that look of satisfaction and accomplishment when you cross the finish line.
On the logistcal side of things, I am out sunk costs (marketing), deposits (medals), and money to vendors that must be paid (logo design, course measuring and certifying). Luckily, we weren't closer to race day when more costs would have already been incurred. I have always strived to keep a rainy day fund, and I am willing to take the hit of several thousand dollars.
I know a lot of you are feeling the effects of us "flattening the curve" as a society economically, and I want to help you weather your own rainy days. Therefore, you will all be receiving a full refund of your entry fee. We can not refund back the small processing fee you paid to Athlete360 as they earned that money processing the credit card transactions, maintaining the registration database, and now manually processing all of your refunds, so thank you for understanding that.
Refunds (of the amount you paid minus the transaction fee) will be processed in registration order and should be completed over the next 2 weeks. You will receive a system email when the refund is processed and see the credit on your card/account within a few business days after that.
There are a lot of races who are not in a financial position to offer refunds of any kind, especially those races who were in the much nearer future than this one, where more sunk costs have already happened. Please, be nice to those Race Directors. We do this out of a love for the sport and the community, and no one is getting rich off race directing. If they can't refund anything back, believe them. And know that the overall race economy is seeing at least a little less impact when shirt vendors, medal vendors, timing companies, race photographers, and more, are still able to at least get their deposits when work is scarce if you are 100% event-based. We all hurt as an industry, but we're sharing the burden across many places.
I hope that you all will stay smart and safe in the next couple months and that you will look to the future and plan for sunnier running days ahead of us all. If you've been wanting to explore trail running or doing more hiking, the Dinosaur Valley Endurance Run is on November 21. It's at beautiful Dinosaur Valley State Park and has many distances to suit everyone (5 mile, 25K, 50K, 100K, and 100 miler). Learn more and register here... At this time, I haven't opened registration for The Showdown Half Marathon and 5K on October 10 or New Years Double 12/31-1/1, so keep an eye out of those to open early this summer. |

How to transfer your bib:
- The person with the race entry needs to email info@fairviewhalf.com and let us know who you want to have the entry.
- Then, you have the new person go online to register and choose the "Bib Transfer" option. It will collect their data, their signed waiver, and the $15 transfer fee.
- I will confirm by email when the transfer is complete.
Refunds can be requested by email and will be processed only until March 15. Refunds are subject to a $20 Administration Fee.
We want the event to be safe and enjoyable for all registered, which means we have to put some rules in place. The race officials can disqualify you from the race and/or grant you a one year ban from all races by The Active Joe if these rules are not followed:
- See our Transgender Entrant Policy which applies to all races produced by The Active Joe and seeks to support, include, and protect the privacy of the transgender athletes who attend our races.
- Race day registration will be available 6:00 am to 7:15 am if the race is not sold out. Entry fee will not be adjusted if we are out of shirts or any other race swag items. Exact cash or checks only race day morning and during race week registration at packet pickup.
- No dogs or strollers are allowed on the race course for the safety of all.
- Runners and walkers are both welcome, as long as you can finish by the time limit.
- Entry fees are non-refundable, including the case of inclement weather.
- No refunds will be granted if you downgrade from the half marathon to the 5K at any time.
- This is a private event, so unregistered participants are not allowed. "Banditting" (as this action is referred to) is frowned upon in the running community and unfair to the runners who paid for the opportunity to participate. Race entry fees go for a lot more than water on a course, medals at the finish line, and a shirt in your race packet. It also exposes an event to serious liability risk. It stresses race resources that were calibrated for the sold-out number of participants and therefore can put other participants', the paid participants, health or safety at risk. Those who bandit any portion of the race may be banned from future events by The Active Joe.
- Unregistered pacers are expressly prohibited in this event. In our definition, an unregistered pacer means a runner who does not have a race entry who joins into the race for at least a mile of the course to help support another runner who is registered. Besides presenting an unfair competitive advantage to one runner, regardless of whether you are a competitive participant or not, it creates a huge traffic issue on the course if this rule is disregarded. Anyone found using an unregistered pacer will be disqualified from the race.
- Note that it is never okay to allow someone to else to use your bib without a proper bib transfer arranged with the Race Director. This can lead to serious liability and medical risks in the chance of emergency and jeopardize the future of the event for everyone.
- Our primary goal is to provide a safe event for participants, volunteers, and the community alike. If something arises that threatens that safety, then a) the event will be altered as it is reasonably possible without stressing other resources, b) the events may be delayed during the morning, or c) the event may be canceled. The event can not be rescheduled for another date due to resource availability in the event of cancelation.
- Event shirts not picked up at packet pickup or race day will not be mailed.
